Football Mania

After the recent whitewash of Inter – IIT 2007 by IIT Bombay, the sports council has decided to tap into this new found enthu for sports with an innovative new idea, namely the Institute Football League (IFL). Based on a format similar to the English Premier League and conceived by the newly founded Institute Football Association (IFA), the League is the first time a non inter-hostel football tournament is being held.

There will be owners, managers and players in the midst of the action so whether you play the role of a shrewd manager or a football hero is up to you. For the non-sporty junta there’s going to be actual money involved so here’s your chance to play mock manager and see how you would do in Sir Alex Ferguson’s shoes. Who knows, one might just strike gold if the resources are spent wisely. The matches, many of which are to be played under lights, will definitely prove to be a sight to see.

Here are some of the rules.

  1. There are to be 8 teams (based on top European Clubs) with 7 rounds of matches.
  2. Each team is made up of 100 shares and each share costs Rs.30. (Yes, actual money!!!).
  3. Owners of a club choose from among themselves a manager and then bid for players।
  4. After each match, teams get a certain amount of cash depending on their performance, which they can later use to buy players.
  5. There are to be 7 match days and 4 games per match day.
  6. A person can only be associated with only one club (whether player or manager).

Here is a wonderful chance for you to take part in what is most definitely going to be an exciting event. There is to be an orientation at LT at 7 pm on Tuesday, February the 5th. The rest of the rules will be discussed and all those interested in becoming owners/managers/players should definitely come. The League will start immediately after the midsems and will not interfere with acads.
